Prion Research

The CPPFD is a natural focus for prion research.  Intramural research activities are represented by activities of the Westaway, Allison, Aiken, McKenzie, Sim and Wille labs, and are underpinned by access to over 6,000 square feet of customized biocontainment lab space (“enhanced level 2”).  In addition to ongoing collaborations, weekly research seminars and video-linked journal clubs provide a point of regular contact with other prion researchers on campus and elsewhere in Alberta.  On a national level, the CPPFD is host to two PrioNet (Network Centre of Excellence) platform facilities, the antibody core and the transgenic core.
